Engaging website

Our challenge was to design a website that effectively engages entry-level job seekers, providing them with important information about job offers without overwhelming them.

Starting with the research

Research methods applied:
  •  Secondary research
  •  Competitor Analysis
  •  Interviews
  •  1 x Survey (44 responses)

Some of the question asked during inverwievs:
  • Tell me about your job search experience in Germany
  • Are you looking for a job online?
  • Which platforms you use when searching for a job?
  • Can you remember features or designs you like?
  • Is there anything that bothers you when you look for a job?

The survey revealed that job seekers often struggle with excessive and irrelevant information during their job search, resulting in wasted time and frustration. Interviewees also mentioned missing key details such as salary range, language requirements, and contact information of recruiters.

Usability Flaws

Through heuristic evaluation and competitive analysis, we discovered several usability flaws in competitors' websites.

Key learnings:

  • Overwhelming amount of information
  • Job descriptions are missing hierarchy
  • Job descriptions are often limited to a small window
  • Relevant details are hidden
  • Job offer cards lack basic information such as language requirements
  • The design of the websites is not very appealing

How can we help job seekers?

After analysing the topic we came to a clear problem statement & HMW statement.

How might we improve the job search and application process on online platforms to optimize the experience for entry-level job seekers, while reducing their frustration?

Ideation

Methods applied:
  • Crazy 8
  • Card Sorting
  • MoSCoW prioritization method

Some of the design solutions we explored:
  • card with job description with all the important information at a glance
  • different profiles with different CVs within the account
  • hierarchy of information in job description
  • possibility to save, like and categorize job offers

Time for a modern design!

With the brand attributes of success, career, and growth in mind, our aim was to develop a website that embodies a modern design aesthetic. We strived to create a youthful, yet professional look that resonates with the dynamic nature of startup culture. We chose to work with vibrant colours which make the website stand out among other job-searching platforms.

To reinforce these brand attributes in the rebranding, we opted for a bolder font that exudes confidence and strength. Additionally, the upward-pointing arrows integrated in the new logo symbolize growth and progression.

Challenging Part

Designing the job offer cards proved to be a significant challenge. We iterated through various possibilities, testing and refining until arriving at the final design, which received positive feedback.

The Outcome

Following multiple prototyping and testing rounds, we created a new holistic design flow for job-seekers.

The result is an interactive and user-friendly website with a homepage featuring three main sections. The job search process is straightforward, allowing job seekers to save, like, or categorize job offers. Job description is structured and has a clear hierarchy of information. By selecting the appropriate profile for each job, the application process becomes quick and easy. Users can create multiple profiles for different professional paths, uploading relevant documents for each profile to ensure accurate applications.

Future Steps

Our future steps include integrating the application card status on the homepage and implementing an AI Chatbot on the website to enhance user experience and support job seekers throughout their journey.
